The Chochlakies gorge is located near the village of Chochlakies and its exit is at Karoumes beach. The route is 3,3km long (one way) and has water most of the winter. The route, which is part of the European footpath E4, usually takes 1:30 hours (one way). The gorge is characterized by its steep cliffs, dramatic rock formations, and narrow passages, creating a sense of adventure for hikers. The terrain varies from rocky paths to lush, shaded areas, providing a diverse hiking experience.

The route is relatively passable, but it is recommended to do it after April when the large flow of water in the river bed stops. Its crossing is particularly charming due to the richness of a variety of plant species, including endemic herbs and flowers that thrive in its microclimate. Olive and carob trees are common, and during spring, the gorge is particularly vibrant with wildflowers.

At the conclusion of the trail awaits the pristine and azure beach of Karoumes, untouched by human intervention. This secluded beach is known for its crystal-clear waters, pebbly shore, and tranquil atmosphere, providing a perfect spot to relax and swim after the hike. The remoteness of Karoumes Beach ensures that it remains uncrowded, offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature.

Walking through the Chochlakies Gorge is a rewarding experience that combines natural beauty, a moderate hiking challenge, and the serenity of a secluded beach. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you plan and enjoy your hike:
