Nestled on the southern coast of Crete lies a peace of paradise waiting to be discovered: the village of Damnoni. Damnoni is located 35km south of Rethymon and 5km east of Plakias, between the beaches of Plakias and the more famous beach of Preveli.

While Crete itself is renowned for its stunning landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture, Damnoni offers a unique blend of nature, tranquility, and authentic Greek charm that sets it apart from other tourist destinations on the island.

The village is blessed with pristine beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and rugged cliffs that form a dramatic backdrop against the azure sky.

Damnoni Beach

The beach is a long bay with beautiful turquoise waters and coarse whitish sand. Here you will find all the services of a well-organized beach such as umbrellas, snack bars, showers, changing rooms, water sports, a scuba diving centre, great hotels, tavernas, one horse riding centre etc.

The west end of the beach, the most organized part, has a small river with water almost all year round. The east end of the beach is quieter and is linked with the adjacent beaches of Amoudaki via a short dirt road. Moreover, beyond the west end of the beach, there are several small coves with sand and rocks, where you can get isolated. These are located just next to the small harbour of the area.

Slow down and enjoy the moment

Unlike some of the more popular tourist hotspots on Crete, Damnoni exudes an aura of tranquility and seclusion that appeals to travelers seeking a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With its laid-back atmosphere and unhurried pace, the village offers the perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. Whether you're unwinding at a seaside taverna, savoring traditional Greek cuisine, or simply soaking in the serenity of your surroundings, Damnoni invites you to slow down and enjoy the moment.

When arriving in Plakias, you can reward yourself with a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of the bay or you can explore the village's streets and rest in one of the tavernas, or continue your hike on the other side of the rock (cape Kakomouri) to Damnoni. As you set out on the trail, you'll be greeted by panoramic views of the sparkling Mediterranean Sea and the rugged coastline that stretches out before you.
You will pass Kalipso bay (you can also go down and take a swim), go up the stairs and continue your hike to Damnoni.
The hike is 6 km and takes about 2 hours.
